In 1973, the University Institute of Annecy-le-Vieux Technology (IUT Annecy) opens its doors and opens the way to a successful bi-departmental development. Finally, by the decree of June 27, 1979, the CUS officially became the University of Chambéry with the use name University of Savoie. The place of life-Bellecombette student Jacob took the name of its first president, the biologist Jacques Rebecq.
Since then, the Savoyard establishment has evolved. It is on two departments and distributed
over four main sites:
■ the Presidency and the National Teachers Training Centre of stakeholders with young
Impaired Sense (CNFEDS) in Chambéry;
■ the Annecy-le-Vieux campus Bourget -the-Lac-Bellecombette and Jacob.
The university is also established in other cities of the territory as Thonon-les-Bains or Annemasse.
She became a founding member of PRES ""University of Grenoble"" July 16, 2010, which turned into Community universities and institutions ""University of Grenoble Alpes"" with the law of 22 July 2013. It participates fully in radiation the first French area of higher education and research.
In 2014, the University of Savoie chooses to change his identity. It becomes ""University of Savoy,"" symbol of unity within the two Savoyard departments and national and international visibility.
Located between Lyon and Grenoble, the borders of Switzerland and Italy, the University of Savoy is a major player in the intellectual, social, and regional and cross-border economic. Thanks to the close and constructive relationships it has forged with other local and regional actors, the University of Savoy is now a key partner of the academic dynamics of a Francophone space that transcends borders.
In 2015, it has more than 14,000 students to whom it offers 200 degree programs at all levels of the LMD. His teachings are based on the activity of 19 recognized research laboratories.
