An Giang University was established under Decision No. 241/1999 / QD-TTg, December 30, 1999 of the Prime Minister and the first school year September 9, 2000. Construction on the facility college of Pedagogy An Giang, An Giang University is a public educational institutions in the university system of Vietnam, under the management expertise of the Ministry of Education and training, and is managed directly by the people's Committee of An Giang province. The school has the task of training the university level, serving the needs of economic development - economic development of An Giang and Mekong Delta regions. Besides school also has the task of research, application and transfer of technology in the region. In 1970, the school was founded with the name School of Education Long Xuyen with only 4 classes and 260 student teachers.Sang to 1976, the College of Pedagogy An Giang Department of Education to be established, then in 1985 it transferred to the management of An Giang Province.In 1995, the province decided to merge two Pedagogic School and College of Education into one, and the new name is An Giang Pedagogical College teacher training and systems industries.In late 1999, the Government proposed passionate response of the Mekong Delta provinces, in order to gradually improve the deterioration of education in Vietnam, and help ease the burden of the Can Tho University's pressure more than 40,000 high school graduates each year in the Mekong Delta, the government signed a decision permitting the establishment of An Giang University in December 1999.
