Officially born December 17, 1970, when the decree establishing the University Paris XI, it was not until autumn 1971 that will be elected by the Council of the University "Paris-Sud" the first President of the establishment. The university then grouped the Orsay Faculty of Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine of Kremlin Bicetre, the Faculty of Pharmacy of Chatenay-Malabry, the Faculty of Law and Economics at Sceaux and IUT de Cachan, Orsay and Seals. Subsequently, two other components will join the university: the FIUPSO (current Polytech Paris-Sud) and UFR STAPS.
