The first concrete steps towards the creation of the State University of Piauí (UESPI), headquartered in Teresina, were given in 1984 by the State Law No. 3967 establishing the Support Foundation for the Development of the State of Piauí Education - FADEPA, entity maintains the Human Resources Training Centres for the public schools teaching in higher education, tele-education Center, Research Center. In 1985, through the Federal Decree No. 91,851, was allowed to run Higher Education Center, with the Pedagogy courses - Teaching Qualification, Science - specialization in Mathematics and Biology Letters - specialization in Portuguese and English and their lliteraturas and administration. The following year, in 1986, held the first entrance exam for Full Degree courses in Education: Teaching, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Language / Portuguese, Language / English and Bachelor in Business Administration, totaling 240 spaces.
