The origin of the Technical University of Oruro goes back to 1876, year in which began operating the Faculty of Law as a matter of private enterprise. Its creation was driven by the dynamics of knowledge as an expression of the booming job growth in Oruro in the late nineteenth century.
The Technical University of Oruro was founded by an Act of October 15, 1892, under the name university district of Oruro during the presidency of Dr. Mariano Baptista. Subsequently, on November 12, 1937, during the rule of the military junta led by Tcnl. Germán Bush Supreme Decree was issued recognizing the autonomy of the university district of Oruro with the name of University of San Agustin.
