The Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (ISIR) was founded in 1939 as a part of Osaka University with the aim of promoting basic science for the development of industry through strong demand and expectations of business leaders in Osaka area. Since then, the ISIR has displayed circumstances flexibility toward change, we carried out a significant restructuring in order to develop the interdisciplinary research fields and to strengthen the Nanoscience and Nanotechnolgy field;a reformation into 3 divisions (Division of information and Quantum Sciences ,Division of Advanced Materials and Beam Sciences, Division of Biological and Molecular Sciences) and Nanoscience and Nanotechnolgy Center in 2009 to date.
