The Conservatory of Tolima, began with the proposal of Maestro Alberto Castilla form a School of Music in 1906. This proposal was as precedents music training provided at the San Simon School and the common interests of the citizens who had Ibague willingness to interpret the musical airs in the region.
Music School began operating first for men and then opened courses for women under the direction of Mrs. Tulia Paramo and by Decree No. 191 of 1909 was declared the official establishment. The Maestro Alberto Castilla was its first director. Later, considering the quality programs were called Music Conservatory of Tolima it was recognized by Decree No. 31 of May 3, 1920. The Maestro Alberto Castilla organized and directed the Conservatory until his death on June 10, 1937. During his administration the Hall Alberto Castilla was built, opened in 1932.
